Navigation

From the car park of the Cherington Arms turn left, and follow the lane, bearing right by Cherington Mill.

1 At the next road junction go straight ahead up the track leading to Cherington Hill.

Where the track takes a sharp turn to the right, continue through a kissing gate and up the hill, keeping the hedge on your right. Pass through another kissing gate, go straight across the field and through another kissing gate. Continue straight ahead, with the hedge on your right for approximately 130m before turning right through a field gate 2.

Follow the bridleway across the next four fields. On the far side of the last field turn right 3 and follow the path downhill along the edge of the next two fields onto a concrete farm track by a wood.

Just before the gate marked “Private Road” 4 turn left through a kissing gate. Bear diagonally right across the next field. After crossing a bridge over a ditch, walk straight ahead across an orchard. Pass through two wooden gates to emerge onto a lane by Sutton under Brailes church 5.

For the short route back to Cherington.

Turn right along the lane and after 20m turn left alongside a garden and into a field. Bear diagonally right across the field down to a bridge over the river Stour. Turn right to re-join the long route at 7.

Turn left and follow the road round to and across the top of the Green. Continue along the road leading out of the village towards Brailes.

At the last house, Greenhill Farm Barn, turn right and follow the track alongside the golf course. Ignore the kissing gate you see on your right after approx. 400m but carry on a short distance to turn right across a footbridge 6. Continue straight ahead beside the hedge. When the hedge veers left, pass through the gap in the hedge and go over the footbridge, walk across the next field to the lane. Cross the lane then bear right across to the corner of the next field.

(Note: a short detour down the lane to the right of the road junction will allow a visit to Sutton- Under-Brailes sheep wash).

Carefully cross the road and continue straight ahead following the hedge and the River Stour. Go through the gap into the next field keeping close to the river but bear slightly left where a path from the right joins. 7 Continue around the corner of a garden, past an old chapel and straight ahead to join the road.

Turn right along the road to return to the Cherington Arms.

Walkers Note: This route may be wet/impassable during the winter months between Sutton-under-Brailes and Cherington in which case returning along the road may be preferable.
