Navigation

From the Crown and Cushion Hotel on the High Street, cross over the street, bear right and turn left by the Blue Boar Pub into Goddard’s Lane. Cross over to Church Street and walk down into St Mary’s churchyard. Bear diagonally left to cross the churchyard and exit by a gate.

The path swings left and opens up with a recreation field on your right. Go through the gate on your right and another gate after approx. 100m. Keep the play area on your right, at the far end veer downhill through a gate and cross the bridge at the bottom. Continue in the same direction up the slope ignoring any other paths. Proceed through two gates either side of the road to enter the cemetery. Follow the path uphill to exit onto a road.

1 Go through the gate on the opposite side and continue with the hedge on your left to a gate in the corner. Enjoy the expansive views as you continue downhill towards Salford.

Continue in the same direction, and go through the gate at the far side of the field. Continue with the hedge on your left. Half way down the field walkthrough a gap in the hedge, go through and continue downhill with the hedge now on your right. Continue along the path through two field gates as you get closer to Village Farm. Walk straight ahead between the farm buildings and meet a bend in the road 2.

Go straight on and continue straight on past the village hall.
Walk along the street to a T-junction. Follow the path as it curves to the right. Cross over to a gravel path signed ‘Church’ and continue to the church but do not go into the churchyard or cross the cattle grid. Turn left and follow the path close to the field boundary.

3 At the A44 turn right and walk along the wide grassy verge. Shortly you will see a bridleway sign on the opposite side of the road. Carefully cross over and follow the bridleway, ignoring any turns off, for approximately half a mile to reach Glebe Farm.

4 At Glebe Farm, follow the bridleway left and then right through the buildings. Continue past the house on your right to walk along the farm drive. At the road turn right and then very soon there is a footpath off to the left.

Continue along the path as it goes down the dip, over a bridge and straight up the other side. You will soon see the church, go through the gate and follow the path through the churchyard to leave by a tree lined path.

At the far end of the path veer right and make for the gate a little distance ahead of you. Join a track going in both directions. Turn left and ignore the lane off to the right.

This road leads you around the edge of the village to another road junction. Turn left (the road straight ahead is private).

Follow the road for approx. 700m.Soon you reach a small junction with a road off left. Right opposite follow the bridleway and cross the field, keep close to the woodland on your left. Cross into the field beyond keeping the hedge line to your right. Exit by a gate to cross the road and through a gate into the field ahead.

5 This large open field has a wet boggy area so keep this on your left and then veer left towards the corner of the field where you will see a bridge to cross.

You will enter the next field in a corner. Keeping the hedge line to your right walk straight to leave the hedge as it swings to the right. Exit the field via the gate and onto the next footpath. Follow this tree and hedge lined footpath and you will come out onto a drive. Continue straight on to the A44. Turn right and walk towards Chipping Norton.

6 When the first residential area peters out, cross over and turn left into Elmsfield Industrial Estate. Walk straight ahead and past the Owen Mumford building on your right. You will eventually find a gate on your right, which you have been through before. Go through the gate into the cemetery.

Retrace your steps through the cemetery to return to The Crown and Cushion.
