Navigation

Starting at the Ramsden Memorial in the centre of the village facing “The Royal Oak” public house, walk left along the High Street past the Memorial Hall and continue heading towards the outskirts of the village. After approximately 500m leave the roadway and turn right on to the pubic footpath, a narrow track with a stone wall on the right 1.

The track, with its gentle upward gradient takes you towards the hill known as Mount Skippet. After about 100m, pass a gate on the right leading to “Little Garden Wood”. Continue along the track until you reach a footpath junction, bear left. A little further along pause to take a look at the pond off to your left.

The path now goes gradually downhill to walk beside a building with a very low roof (take care when passing it)and leads onto Finstock High Street. Turn right and walk down the street for 50m 2. Turn right again to join a public footpath. Note that the sign for the footpath is set back from the road. Proceed along this footpath which for the first 250m or so takes you past the rear of some properties. You will pass through four gates installed by the Cotswold Voluntary Wardens. The last gate leads into a large field.

Continue in the same direction keeping close to the hedge on your right. Enjoy the open views of Evenlode Valley and the Wychwood Forest on your left. After about 200m overhead cables cross the footpath, go straight on for a further 600m to a second set of overhead cables. Pass underneath and turn right. 3

Continue along the line of the overhead cables until you reach the hedge at the far side of the field. Turn right to have the hedge and then the woodland on your left. 4

Follow the route round the field edge until you see a gap leading into some woodland.

Continue just a short distance to emerge at, the far end and go through a gap by a metal gate leading to a track 5.

Turn right along the tarmac track downhill past the attractive stone cottages of Ramsden. Very soon you will arrive at your starting place.
