❶With your back to the main church door turn right and walk round to the west door. Cross the road and walk along Black Jack Street. Continue past the Corinium Museum. Shortly after the road bends sharply to the right look for a footpath on left signed Riverside Walk and Swimming Pool. Follow this path with Gumstool Brook on your left to a road. Cross the road diagonally right to another path leading to a footbridge over the stream; it turns right to continue along the left bank to a road.Turn left along the pavement to reach the main Gloucester/Cheltenham road.

❷keep on until the Cheltenham road branches off to the right. Take the footpath on the left and pass through a gap into the field. Cross the field diagonally following the path towards a bungalow.Through a gap in the wall go down the lane with the bungalow on your right and some houses on the left to a T-junction. Cross the road diagonally right to agate leading to a path running to the right of some allotments. Carry on in the same direction and after crossing a private drive you come out by a road over a bridge. Turn right here up to the main road (A417). Cross the main road with care, and walk straight up Baunton Lane.

❸Follow Baunton Lane over the top and down to another main road (A435). Cross this and follow the minor road opposite to Baunton village. After passing the village green where this road bends sharply to the left go straight ahead up a gated road. Past the houses on the right follow the lane round to a footpath signpost and a field gate on the right. Through this follow the track ahead, which keeps to the field boundaries on the right and is sometimes enclosed by a bank or a hedge on the left as well. This takes you back to Cirencester with some fine views of the Parish Church in the distance. keep on in the same direction until you come out on to a surfaced road (Bowling Green Lane).

❹Follow this to the main road, (Abbey Way). Cross Abbey Way with care to the road opposite with bollards. Follow this to the river. Turn left along the left bank of the river and follow it to a road. Cross the road to a path opposite and continue in the same direction for about 75 yards to another road, turn half right here over the stream and the entrance to Abbey Grounds is ahead. Enter and turn right on to asphalt path. Follow this path to T-junction of paths, turn right to the back of the Parish Church and round it to the Market Place.
