(2) At the bottom of Symn Lane, turn right along Brown’s Piece then onto the public footpath. Where the footpath splits, take the left-hand fork down Hack Hill via a set of steps. At the bottom of the hill you are now at the site of the demolished Hack Mill. Follow the footpath to the right, over a small bridge, through a kissing gate and along a narrow path until you come to a stile on the corner of a large field.

(3) This field is known as ‘The Sands’. Follow the well defined footpath diagonally up and across the field towards a stile where the field meets Nind Lane. (ST 76167 92220).

(4) Cross Nind Lane into the field opposite and follow the footpath into the far southerly corner where you will find a kissing gate. (ST 76398 91800).

Follow the Cotswold Way and after approximately 100m, turn right through a gate and onto a sunken pathway. Follow the Cotswold Way signs until you reach the Cotswold Warden’s bench on top of Tor Hill. Stop for a rest and to admire the fine view. (ST 77136 931115).

(8) Continue to follow the Cotswold Way in a North-Easterly direction through a pair of large gates and onto a wide track. Follow this track for approximately 500m until meet a road, Blackquarries Hill. (ST 77772 93403).

For a slight diversion as you walk along this track you will see a stile on the right. If you cross this, it will take you onto the site of Blackquarries Hill Long Barrow, where there is an information board that shows the history of the site. Retrace your steps after this diversion back to the main route.

(9) At the junction with Blackquarries Hill, continue to follow the Cotswold Way and head down the hill. After approximately 850m, take the footpath on the right, down into Coombe.

(10) At the end of this path, turn left, then almost immediately right and follow the road down the hill until you arrive at the pumping station. (ST 76737 93854).

(11) Take the road on the right of the pair of cottages opposite the pumping station and walk along the lane until you come to a junction. Again take the road on the right.

(12) Follow this lane for approximately 130m until you come to a switchback, then follow the road around the left-hand bend and up the hill to a junction with Rushmire Hill, the B4058. (ST 76694 94300).

(13) Cross this busy road carefully and continue on up the old sheep path on the opposite side of the road, looking out for a kissing gate on the left-hand side. Pass through this onto Coombe Hill.

(14) Admire the views and the ancient strip lynchets, as you follow the footpath around the top of the field for approximately 600m until you come to a stile near a water reservoir. (ST 76057 94052).
