Route description
| Kingscote is a small village but has a lot of history associated with it. There was a large Roman settlement there and a Roman road runs through the parish. The manor and estate (4000 acre) are mentioned in the Domesday book and until 1960 was owned by the Kingscote family.
John Wedgewood, son of Josiah of pottery fame, and founder of the Royal Horticultural Society lived there. Jenner the pioneer of vaccination married one of the Kingscote family’s daughter in the village church; another daughter married Alan Cornwall who was vicar of the neighbouring parish of Bagpath and a colleague of Wilberforce in the fight against slavery, |
