Winchcombe's Ups and Downs

A walk from Winchcombe via Abbots Leys, a local viewpoint. An attractive route with hills, views, woodlands and a historic pottery, established in the eighteenth century. We may even glimpse the GWSR steam train travelling through the summer countryside.

Route description

We climb up Langley Hill from Winchcombe, heading for Abbots Leys, a lovely vantage point to see to the west and the north on a clear day. We descend through woodland towards the village of Gretton, skirt Cups Hill, and head on to Greet. Our route takes us past Winchcombe Pottery,  which was originally established there as it was close to the source of the clay used in its early days. There may be time to pop in to admire the attractive wood fired stoneware in the recently updated shop.

We then follow the track of the GWSR railway (and may see a train pass if we are lucky) and on to the Cotswold Way, our return route into Winchcombe.

Please bring a drink/snack and a picnic lunch.
