Shorter and Steadier #11. Kineton

This is another of our series of Shorter and Steadier walks to introduce new walkers to the splendour of our glorious countryside and the sheer joy of walking in the countryside. These shorter walks will be at a gentler pace for those who fear that most Wardens’ Guided Walks may be a bit challenging. They will also be ideal for anyone wanting to regain fitness after a health setback.

Route description

This walk starts at 1000am from a small car park on Critchford Lane and crosses a tributary of the Windrush before a gentle climb through open countryside, with great views, on the way to the Kineton village. The walk then crosses the Windrush twice, on ancient clapper bridges, before heading towards Guiting Woods and then back to the car park across yet another bridge and past the remains of a water mill. Although the walk is in November most of the route is on good surfaces, though some places will be muddy or wet so waterproof boots/shoes are recommended.
