Step back in time: Oakridge to Bisley Spring circular walk.

There are places in the Cotswolds where a visit feels like you have stepped back in time; Oakridge Lynch and Bisley are two such places. The walk will take us from arts and crafts rich Oakridge Lynch across pastures to Bisley where the previous week’s Ascension Thursday traditional Well dressing should still be in full bloom. And then back to Oakridge Lynch.

Route description

Although sadly closed on a Tuesday, the folk at The Butcher’s Arms Oakridge allow us to use the car park as the start and finish of our walks. Setting off from here we will explore the stone cottages of the village and get a feel for the relationship it has historically shared with the wool trade of the Frome valley below.

Our path takes us across a steep valley of a stream that eventually flows into the River Frome as we make our way towards Bournes Green. Here the terrain flattens, and we will make our way North to Bisley. Undoubtedly, the highlight of our walk will be the sight of the beautiful, dressed’ wells below All Saints Church. We will then make our way back across fields and lanes to Oakridge.
