Route description

Then turning south-east the walk goes past the “Heather plots” and on towards Padcombe with views of the Breakheart Plantation. The route then heads towards the top of West Down before climbing up past the trig point, the highest point of the Cotswolds, back to the masts. Parts of the walk are likely to be a bit muddy.

This is the first in 2026 of a series of shorter, steadier walks to introduce new walkers to the splendour of our glorious Cotswold landscape and the sheer joy of walking in the countryside.
Shorter walks will be at a gentler pace for those who fear that most Wardens’ Guided Walks may be a bit challenging. They will also be ideal for families (though not pushchairs, sorry) and possibly anyone wanting to regain fitness after a health setback. Children must be kept under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times.
