Route description

This lovely walk is made a little more challenging by a couple of steep inclines, but much of the route is flat, along tow paths, fields, lanes and woodland tracks.
Our circular route starts at Stroud Brewery (https://stroudbrewery.com), where you will be welcome to linger for refreshments when we return.
The most challenging section is within a mile of the start, taking us from Thrupp Farm up Claypits Lane to Lypiatt Manor. The later shorter steep incline is Bussage Hill, leading to St Michael & All Angels Church with origins going back 700 years, where we’ll stop for a drink and a snack (please provide your own).
Much of this pretty route follows the Thames & Severn Canal and River Frome, with lots of examples of restored mills, giving an insight to industry in the Cotswolds and areas where nature has taken over.

  • Please wear weather-appropriate footwear and clothing for walking
  • Please bring a drink, a snack, and sunscreen
  • The day before a walk, please check to ensure it is still running – and for any exceptional weather forecasts / warnings
  • All walk leaders are appropriately trained and have basic first-aid skills
  • Assistance dogs (on short leads) are welcome
  • Guided walks with the Wardens are free, but we welcome donations to help us sustain our work across the Cotswolds National Landscape.
