Route description

A circular walk starting at the end of the runway at the disused WW2 Chedworth airfield, which was used for training purposes for many planes, including Spitfires. From there we walk through the woods to Chedworth Roman Villa, where there are toilets available. Please bring your NT Membership if you have one and register your visit – the site gets funding based on the number of visitors.  Then we walk on to Chedworth village. Chedworth church which we will visit has a splendid sundial and you will learn about how it works. Then back to the start where we will have a better view of the airfield on route.

  • Please wear weather-appropriate footwear and clothing for walking
  • Please bring a drink, a snack, and sunscreen
  • The day before a walk, please check to ensure it is still running – and for any exceptional weather forecasts / warnings
  • All walk leaders are appropriately trained and have basic first-aid skills
  • Assistance dogs (on short leads) are welcome
  • Guided walks with the Wardens are free, but we welcome donations to help us sustain our work across the Cotswolds National Landscape.
