Route description

Boxwell Court is a fine mansion built on the site of an ancient monastery. The monastery was destroyed by Henry VIII who ceded the land to the Huntley family who were tenants of the monastery and assisted Henry’s enforcer to close it down – they have lived there ever since. The main source of income was boxwood used in tool making. Charles II  was reputed to have stayed there, and left a gold ring in appreciation, on his long trip from Worcester to the Dorset coast –good of him to follow the Monarch’s way.
