Route description

Starting at Fosseway Car Park (next to Tesco CP), this varied walk might not cross paths with Cavaliers and Roundheads but will introduce you to the terrain across which the last battle of the English Civil War was fought. Using a mixture of quiet roads and footpaths, we will pass the entrance to a Lutyens estate, the bucolic Donnington brewery, the site of the Battle of Stow (or is it?!), a 1300 year old Yew tree before returning to Stow along Charles II’s escape route.

Please wear weather-appropriate footwear and clothing for walking

  • Please bring a drink, a snack, and sunscreen
  • The day before a walk, please check to ensure it is still running – and for any exceptional weather forecasts / warnings
  • All walk leaders are appropriately trained and have basic first-aid skills
  • Assistance dogs (on short leads) are welcome
  • Guided walks with the Wardens are free, but we welcome donations to help us sustain our work across the Cotswolds National Landscape.
