In the Footsteps of the Romans

A circular route from Stonesfield that offers glimpses of Roman life in the Evenlode valley. We are hoping the villa will be unlocked so we get a better glimpse of the interior.

Route description

This very pretty walk in the Evenlode valley goes from Stonesfield along Akeman Street, a Roman road, and returns via the Roman villa at North Leigh, passing through Blenheim Park on the way. There are a few ups and downs, but we will walk at a leisurely pace, so don’t be put off.  Bring refreshments: we will stop to look at the villa and have lunch there.

  • Please wear weather-appropriate footwear and clothing for walking
  • Please bring a drink, a snack, and sunscreen
  • The day before a walk, please check to ensure it is still running – and for any exceptional weather forecasts / warnings
  • All walk leaders are appropriately trained and have basic first-aid skills
  • Assistance dogs (on short leads) are welcome
  • Guided walks with the Wardens are free, but we welcome donations to help us sustain our work across the Cotswolds National Landscape.
