Route description

We start at St Lawrence Church Mickleton, proceeding around Meon Hill enjoying the views. There is a stop at the scene of a notorious 1945 St Valentine’s Day murder before joining the Monarch’s Way to walk up the escarpment to Hidcote where we will have a break.

There are picnic tables along with a cafe and toilets at Hidcote. You will need to be an NT member to access the cafe.

Although we will not be going into Hidcote we will cover its role in the development of arts and crafts gardens in the early 20th century, along with Mickleton’s link to the designer of Hidcote’s famous gardens.’

Please park sensitively either in the church car park (donation please) or elsewhere in Mickleton.

  • Please wear weather-appropriate footwear and clothing for walking
  • Please bring a drink, a snack, and sunscreen
  • The day before a walk, please check to ensure it is still running – and for any exceptional weather forecasts / warnings
