Route description

We start up a steep lane out of Nailsworth to reach open fields before descending to a hidden valley, with a stream, curving round to reach attractive Avening, where we have a short break at the church. We then climb out of Avening and as we emerge from the trees we have stunning distant views of Gatcombe Park, Box, Minchinghampton, and the Commons before entering woodland. Out in the open again we turn for Nailsworth and descend fairly steeply to the start.
Mostly open countryside. Some walking on quiet country lanes.
Please wear weather-appropriate footwear and clothing for walking

  • Please bring a drink, a snack, and sunscreen
  • The day before a walk, please check to ensure it is still running – and for any exceptional weather forecasts / warnings
  • All walk leaders are appropriately trained and have basic first-aid skills
  • Assistance dogs (on short leads) are welcome
  • Guided walks with the Wardens are free, but we welcome donations to help us sustain our work across the Cotswolds National Landscape.
