Route description

A lovely walk from Hailes Church up the Cotswold Way, heading towards Cromwell’s Seat.  We veer off just before this landmark, down a beautiful valley towards Wood Stanway.  From then on it’s a level return, via the village of Didbrook, fields and the ruins of Hailes Abbey. Although the walk is moderate, we plan to take the hill, up and down, at a gentle pace.

We park and meet at Hailes Church to begin the walk but why not allow yourself time for a cuppa before the walk (or after) at nearby Hayles Fruit Farm café if you wish (opens at 9 am).

  • Please wear weather-appropriate footwear and clothing for walking
  • Please bring a drink, a snack, and sunscreen
  • The day before a walk, please check to ensure it is still running – and for any exceptional weather forecasts / warnings
  • All walk leaders are appropriately trained and have basic first-aid skills
  • Assistance dogs (on short leads) are welcome
  • Guided walks with the Wardens are free, but we welcome donations to help us sustain our work across the Cotswolds National Landscape.
