Navigation

With Miserden village shop on right, follow the road past the church to a tree shelter. Keeping this on your right turn right up a footpath between a house and an old village hall (the Club Room) to cross two stone stiles. Cross the road 1 and go through the gate opposite. Walk along the right hand field boundary through a second gate, continue on to the end of the field with a wall on your right. Turn left down a track to a fork and go left.

At end of track enter the field through a gate and go straight down to a gate at the bottom. 2 Turn right on road and walk past a house on your left and take the path through a field gate on your right into the field 3.

Turn right on a grass track down to a gate, go through and onwards, at a fork, which is difficult to spot, turn right, towards a way marker, and continue to a bridge across a stream 4.

Walk ahead through a gate and with the river on your left, go along the valley to the end of the field. Go through a single gate and continue along the valley until you see a grass track on your right going up a slope and leading to a gate onto the drive of Valley Farm. Turn left down the drive, above Edgeworth Mill Farm, over a cattle grid and down to gates onto the
road. 5

Turn right and walk along the road up the hill, ignoring the turning on the left to the church. Fork right at the gates on your left at the lodge to the Hall.

Walk along to a T-junction 6, go straight ahead through double gates, keeping to the left side and go through two fields, curving downhill into woodland. Keep to the right hand track.

Keep right uphill along a waymarked track ignoring a path downhill. Shortly after a path to the right which goes steeply uphill, take a right fork, curving gently uphill. Head for a stone stile on the left, hidden in trees, at the end of the wood.

Go over a stile into the field and immediately turn left 7 along the left side, close to the wall. Cross a stile by a gate, cross the drive with its two squeeze stiles. Keep to the left side of the field. Below you is Sudgrove House. Above is Sudgrove Farm. Exit the field over a stile by a cottage. Walk straight ahead to a road.

Walk ahead and follow the sign to ‘All Cottages Farm’. Follow the road past the cottages, turning right by a double garage and enter a field through a large gate 8.

Walk along right hand side of a field, exiting at a gate by a reservoir. Walk between walls to another gate and a lane, between a barn and cottage to a road. Turn left then 2nd right 9 (signposted Miserden) and walk down to the bus shelter. Now retrace your steps to the shop.

Margery Boughton was a long-serving Warden who helped pioneer our interpretive Guided Walks for the public. She was noted for seeking out challenging but rewarding itineraries, and this is one of her best-remembered walks.
