The Court of King Solomon
A walk over undulating countryside and along country lanes taking in the villages of Water Lane, Iles Green and Bournes Green.. There are two steep ascents.
Many villages have been established in the Parish of Bisley from Saxon times. Some were a few dwellings built on higher ground just below the ridge (Lynch).. At Iles Green the Arts & Craft “Iles House” can be seen. Solomons Court at Avensis dates back to 1526; it has been refitted and enlarged to its present state. On the return leg, St. George’s Mushrooms have been found. These appear on or about 26th April hence their name
This walk is organised by Cotswold Voluntary Wardens, the voluntary arm of the Cotswolds Conservation Board. These walks offer an interesting and often entertaining way of exploring our wonderful Cotswold countryside and landscape. All walks by the Voluntary Wardens are FREE OF CHARGE however donations are welcome and help us to take care of the countryside.
