Flower Foray around Cleeve Common

Back to Guided Walks page

A fabulous flower foray! We hope to showcase the wonderful range of wildflowers that grow on Cleeve Common, a mecca for botanists. Wear sturdy footwear for scrambling over rougher areas.

Join our Flower Foray to find out why it is such an important refuge for rare flora (with a bit of luck we will find some of them). We will walk over the agriculturally unimproved grassland of the Common looking for typical limestone grassland flowers and some Cotswold specialities too. The grassland is of high nature conservation value and as such has protected status as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. As we meet some of the rarer and more vulnerable species, we will see the benefits of the careful grazing strategy of the past few years and look at other conservation techniques and experiments.
