Always Something Special at Moreton Show

It’s one of the biggest one-day agricultural shows in the UK so it is little wonder that this 165 acre site in the beautiful north Cotswolds is packed with things to see and do – and buy. Traditional and always changing – that’s what they say about Moreton Show. Come for the day and prepare to be surprised at how much there is to see.

You can always be sure of seeing the best in Livestock, with stockmen and women travelling from all over the UK to Moreton Show, which includes the National Poll Hereford Cattle Show. To add to the experience, Moreton Show always entertains and informs even the most experienced of farmers with expert commentary throughout proceedings.

The Horse Section is always busy, with more than 1,100 entries in the showing and show jumping classes, many of which are Horse of the Year Show qualifiers.

Top of the bill this year in the Grand Arena is the dare-devil stunt rider, Matt Coulter – aka the Kangaroo Kid, from Australia’s Gold Coast. This is a man who knows no limits and you will never have seen a quad bike perform quite like this. The last time Matt performed at Moreton Show, he set one of his countless Guinness World Records. There is talk that he will attempt to better that record on his return to the show in 2018.

This is a show guaranteed to get mums, dads and the children on their feet, with the Kangaroo Kid determined to jump anything put in his path. He’s jumped cars, trucks, paddle steamers and aeroplanes – so anything is possible.

The Grand Arena is also where you will see top class show jumping, ponies in fancy dress, heavy horses, sheepdog trialling, the straw challenge and the climax of the show - the Grand Parade of champion livestock, sponsored by Sheldon Bosley Knight.

Meanwhile, over in the Rural Attractions Arena, you can see terrier racing, the Lamb National, the Dog and Duck Show, beautiful, vintage tractors, working dogs and so much more.

The Rural Attractions area now incorporates all the wonders of Countryside and Heritage and ‘Farmtastic’ - a celebration of farming and rural life. This includes the Severn Vale Rare Breeds Survival Trust, Pig Agility, hedge laying and a mini-farm - essentially a miniature version of Old Farm at Dorn, which gives up much of its land on the Batsford Estate every summer for the Moreton Show. Farmers, Simon and Sarah Righton will share their favourite animals and their expertise and there will be lambs, goats and pigs for everyone to see. They reckon that if 20,000 people can’t come to their farm, then they’ll bring the farm to them. There’s Tractor Ted too!

Family Fun includes Circus Whizz, vintage Land Rovers, displays by the North Cotswold Gym Club from Upper Rissington and the Aria Dance Group from Broadway.

All the family loves a Dog Show and, at Moreton, there is one always full of fun for dogs and their owners. This year, the early displays include one by the assistance dog charity, Dogs for Good.

The Home and Garden marquee is always a major attraction because this is where you’ll always find the best in flowers, vegetables, handicrafts, wines and homebaking – all entered in competition and the rivalry is keen.

In the Cotswold Food Market, you’ll find the very best in locally-produced food and drink. The always-busy marquee boasts sumptuous displays and a vibrant atmosphere. Last year, the best stand award went to Foxdenton Gin and the competition is bound to be fierce this time around. There are cooking demonstrations too while local traders will make sure there is always plenty of good food to eat throughout the day.

And then there’s the shopping – at more than 350 trade stands, selling everything from Wellington Boots to Combine Harvesters. Need a new outfit for the winter? A new basket for the dog? A robotic lawn mower? A car? A shepherd’s hut? A holiday? It’s all at Moreton Show. We look forward to seeing you there.
