Gloucestershire Steam and Vintage Extravaganza

Visitors can expect to enjoy a huge range of vintage vehicles, a live action arena, steam and military section – plus many more attractions.  Friday 5th – Sunday 7th August from 10am.  Tickets cost £7 on Friday and £10 on Saturday or Sunday for adults; £6 on Friday and £9 on Saturday or Sunday for concessions; £4 on Friday and £5 on Saturday or Sunday for juniors, while under 5s are free of charge.  Tel: 01453 890891

 


Wizard Animal Week at Cotswold Wildlife Park

Whether the children are fans of JK Rowling’s original stories or the Hollywood blockbuster, to celebrate the launch of the final film, Cotswold Wildlife Park will be hosting a special week long Harry Potter inspired event.

Marking the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Wizard Animal Week will be taking place at the start of the summer holidays, from Friday 22 to Sunday 31 July 2011.  Amongst a line-up of special talks and activities at the attraction situated just over the Gloucestershire borders, Cotswold Wildlife Park’s visitors will be able to discover whether owls can carry letters and whether snames really do talk parseltongue.

There’s also the opportunity to win cinema tickets and Harry Potter goodie bags, with face painting and an animal trail also promising to spellbind youngsters.

And, what’s more all the special Wizard Animal Week activities are included in the normal admission price.


Nature Detectives at Slimbridge

Channelling the sleuthing tricks of Sherlock Holmes to the modern scientific methods of a CSI investigator, Nature Detectives will be keeping their eyes peeled for clues at Slimbridge Wetland Centre during the summer holidays.

Being launched on Friday 22 July 2011, and running right through until Thursday 1 September 2011, Slimbridge visitors of all ages can become a Nature Detective, putting their skills to the trest to solve a wetland mystery around the grounds.

From investigating what lives in the dipping ponds and building a den opposite Wellyboot Land, to spying waders in the special wader shore exhibit, the special summer holiday activities are all included in the admission price.

Plus there’s a chance to handle an amphibian at Toad Hall, watch the otters being fed, and make a Slimbridge scrapbook.  website: wwt.org.uk/slimbridge


Medieval Gargoyles at the Corinium Museum

Throughout August the Corinium Museum in Cirencester will be running art activities inspired by archaeology and history.  From Tuesday 2 to Thursday 4 August 2011, children aged 3 and above can get hands-on, creating their very own medieval-style gargoyle from clay, in one of the popular drop-in workshops running during the school holidays.


Wild flower walk

A guided two hour walk to learn more about the management of the farm and to see the river side wildflower meadows. An event aimed at adults with an interest in learning about wildlife in more detail. More information will be given on booking. Chastleton House – Families of Chastleton

Highly rated by families as well as country sport enthusiasts with major food, equestrian and gardening exhibitions plus fun features demonstrating conservation and new activities in the countryside alongside all the traditional country sports shows. The Country Land Owners Association brings this world-class event to Blenheim Palace every three years.

Giffords Circus: War and Peace

The Giffords Circus company of actors, acrobats, learned geese, tumbling pigeons, hawks, clowns, musicians and runaways roll out this new show for 2011. Expect thrilling scenes inspired by this epic Russian novel re-imagined for a family audience.  Fill charmed summer days and starry nights with a musical, magical village green circus.
