Crickley Time Machine – A 170 Million Year Journey

Back to Guided Walks page

Our journey starts in the balmy seas of Middle Jurassic with the Cotswold Limestone, then moves to human settlement during the Neolithic, an Iron Age hillfort and Roman occupation. Along the walk nature and cultivation will be encountered, with tales of adders, toxic plants and dew ponds.

This is a Cotswold Warden Learning Walk, providing exercise, panramic views across the Severn Vale and insights into the geological, human history and natural history highlights of Crickley Hill Counrty Park. It is suitable for all ages, although paths are uneven and inclined in parts. The car park has flat fee of £2. The Country Park has an informative interpretation room, and a well provisioned café. The Country Park is managed by the National Trust and the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.

This walk is organised by Cotswold Voluntary Wardens, the voluntary arm of the Cotswolds Conservation Board. These walks offer an interesting and often entertaining way of exploring our wonderful Cotswold countryside and landscape. All walks by the Voluntary Wardens are FREE OF CHARGE however donations are welcome and help us to take care of the countryside.

PLEASE: always remember to wear appropriate footwear because some walks may be steep and muddy in places. Dogs are not allowed on walks, except guide dogs and hearing dogs. It is advisable to check the website or call the Cotswolds Conservation Board (07841 663607) beforehand for details of any changes, particularly during bad weather.
