Communion Flagons and the Civil War

Tuesday 29th May 12.30pm
A chance to come and learn about our newly-loaned church flagons from the Civil War period with our Collections Assistant Ben Harridge. Discover the objects that reflect the turmoil of a warring country and see how the Cotswolds faired as armies marched and fought through and around Cirencester.
Museum lunchtime gallery talks are included in admission. Free to season ticket holders.


Corinium Picture House – An American in Paris.

Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May 2.15pm
Celebrate the Diamond Jubilee with the Academy Award winning 1950’s classic ; An American in Paris, starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron with music by George Gershwin. During the interval enjoy tea and cake on vintage china, hosted by Lavinia’s Tea Party. 1950’s dress optional.

Design Your Own Postcard Drop In

Saturday 26th May, 10:30am – 12:30pm
Create a commemorative postcard to pop in the post. You could send it to a friend or see how long it takes to reach your house.
Family drop-ins are suitable for children aged 3 and above. Cost £1 plus admission. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that last admissions will be 10 minutes before the end of each drop-in session.

Olympic Torch Drop In

Saturday 19th May, 10:30am – 12:30pm.
Make your own torch to carry when the official Olympic Torch travels through Cirencester on 23rd May.
Family drop-ins are suitable for children aged 3 and above. Cost £1 plus admission. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that last admissions will be 10 minutes before the end of each drop-in session.

Paint your own Commemorative Cup or Plate Workshop

Saturday 12th May, 11am – 3pm
Create your own commemorative crockery, inspired by the Jubilee exhibition. Pick a ceramic cup or plate to paint. Please allow up to an hour to decorate your item, which will be fired in a kiln and ready to collect the following week.
This is a family workshop. Cost £12 (includes all materials)


Jubilee Exhibition

The exhibition pays particular interest in the Queen’s role on stamps, and the variety of artwork which has been used since 1953. The exhibition will show works commissioned for Royal Mail stamps from artists including Tony Meeuwissen, Martin Parr, Jake Sutton and Terence Millington.
The exhibition will also showcase postcard designs from the Best of Britain stamp competition, which has attracted submissions from artists worldwide.

Entry to the museums temporary exhibition space is free.


Bat Walk

We will listen out for bats with the help of detectors and you will have the chance to ask any bat-related questions: do they all suck blood? Do they all look the same? What sounds do they make? How big are they? What do they hunt? Where do they live? Be prepared to be surprised by these secretive creatures! Please bring a torch. This event is part of Open Museum Night. The Museum In The Park (Stratford Park) will be open until 10pm, so make this a memorable night out. Toilets and refreshments are available at the Museum. Cost: £3/adult £2/child Meeting place: At the front of the Museum In The Park. Booking is recommended as this event will be popular.
